CASS: GOLD in O.C.

The Orange County Wine Society conducts the largest competition of California wines in the world and this year CASS WINES sent in their only white wine, the '07 Viognier, and their new releases, the '05 Syrah and '05 Cabernet. All three got Gold Medals; the Cab got a "4 STAR" Gold. Only 20 or so 4 Star Golds were awarded out of over 3,000 total wines and over 300 total Gold Medals.

Great news, Eric Asimov from the New York Times recommended Montes Purple Angel 2004 in the New York Times today, calling it "dark and spicy" and describes it as having "polished, lingering flavors of dark fruit and spicy vanilla." The article talks about Carmenere from Chile and also includes a tasting chart of recommended wines.
